Grassroots Community Award Launch
Just Credit Union is proud to launch an award in memory of Steve Brown; a long-standing supporter of the credit union.
Karen Farrow, Chief Officer at Just Credit Union, said: “Steve Brown joined the steering group that set up Just Credit Union in the late 90’s. And when JCU launched in October 2001, Steve became a director and took on the role of treasurer. Steve brought experience, diligence and determination to his roles and is greatly missed. But mostly, we miss him personally.”
It seemed only fitting to announce the Steve Brown Community Award at our Annual General Meeting in March. It will be called the Grassroots Community Award to reflect Steve’s support for sport and helping youth groups and these will be prioritised when making a decision for the award.
It will be an annual grant of £500. This year however, Steve’s family have matched the award with a further £500 to make this year’s award £1000. This sum will be split between two organisations or paid as one award, depending on applications. Kate Brown, Steve’s wife said: “We are delighted Steve’s commitment to the community and the credit union is being recognised.”
Just CU is now open to applications for the award and we want to encourage local youth and sports groups to apply. The application will be a simple process with a pack for all those applying. We want to know how your group could benefit from the grant and how it will make a difference. Applications will close on 31st May and a decision will be made before 12th June 2026. Good luck!!
