Staff at several schools in the region are being given the chance to save for a rainy day – thanks to a new partnership. The partnership is between the 3-18 Education Trust – comprising Coleham Primary School, The Priory School, Thomas Adams School, St Martins 3-16 School, William Brookes and Bowbrook Primary – and Just Credit Union.

The scheme will give employees the chance to save direct from their payroll and they will also be able to access ethical affordable loans when needed.

A spokesperson for the Trust said today: “We recognise that many people at some stage in their life need extra financial planning and support, often when circumstances change and particularly during the current challenging times. We are therefore delighted to launch this financial wellbeing offer which we believe will be valued by teams.”

Steve Barras, Business Development Officer at Just Credit Union, said: “We offer payroll savings through a number of organisations and members tell us that a payroll savings scheme makes it very easy to save. As the savings are paid direct to the member’s secure Just Credit Union savings account, they don’t miss it and even small amounts soon build up. When the savings are needed for a treat such as a holiday or to cover an emergency the members can access their savings easily and quickly.”

David O’Toole, CEO of The 3-18 Education Trust, said: “The 3-18 Education Trust recognises that money can be challenging and stressful at the moment and we are pleased to announce that the Trust has teamed up with Just Credit Union to provide staff with access to secure savings and affordable loans. We pride ourselves on the positive relationships in our local communities and Just Credit Union is also a community focused organisation.

“They are a not-for-profit co-operative owned by their members and run for their mutual benefit rather than corporate profit. What people save with them is what they lend in the local community and the interest paid on a loan funds the running of the credit union rather than corporate profits.  Whether saving or borrowing the money stays in our region helping the local economy and communities.

“Our schools already enjoy the benefit of an experienced central team whilst maintaining their individual identity and culture. We are driven by our mission to ensure “ËœEvery individual is in a great school’ where the child is at the heart of everything we do.

“As we grow our family of schools we want to further build strong networks of support in our local communities. We welcome contributions from anyone who feels they can assist us in achieving our mission and look forward to building partnerships that continue to shape the educational landscape.”

Steve Barras added: “Payroll deduction makes it easier to save.  Staff can save as much or as little as they like. The money is deducted directly from payroll before it goes into their bank account and sent to Just Credit Union. Savers can get same day access to their savings when needed and all savings are fully protected by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme in the same way they are with a bank or building society.”
