The winner has been announced of our new education grant to mark Just Credit Union’s 20th anniversary.
Mim Maclean has been awarded Just Credit Union’s new education grant for young people. The award is designed to help a young person continue in further education and Mim will be taking up a place studying international relations at Liverpool University. Mim has recently been diagnosed with autism and will need to cover additional living costs as well as the purchase of a laptop.
She said today: “I would like to thank Just Credit Union for awarding me this grant. Being autistic, I struggle to share accommodation and can only take up my place if I could afford studio accommodation which is more expensive. The money will help greatly.”ÂÂ

Mim, originally from Liverpool, was nominated by her mother Jayne who has been a long-term supporter of Just Credit Union.
Jayne said: “This is the most wonderful news, thank you. My daughter is delighted – it will make a big difference to her.”ÂÂ
The award has been launched as part of Just Credit Union’s 20th anniversary celebrations and will become an annual grant. The award is in memory of Roger Walker who was a founder member, long-time chair and board member who remained involved with Just Credit Union until he passed away in 2020.
Mark Perez, Just Credit Union’s current chair, said “We were very impressed with the quality of applications we received. It was very difficult for the selection panel to decide a winner.
“After careful consideration the panel decided to offer the grant to Mim and we hope it makes a big difference to her time at university and we wish her well with her studies.”ÂÂ
Dates and how to apply for the 2022 Roger Walker Education Award will be available summer next year.
