The Wrekin Housing Group is a socially minded organisation that prides itself on making a difference to people’s lives . We caught up with Wrekin Financial Inclusion Manager Deb Morrison, to find out what they have been doing to help their tenants over recent weeks…..

It’s been a manic few months in the world of debt and welfare benefit advice, keeping up to date with the constant changes to the legislation and guidance for people struggling to manage their bills, and supporting our tenants to sustain their tenancies
The finances of many of our customers have been hit hard during the Covid-19 pandemic – and it’s a situation that none of us planned for! We have seen a huge increase in demand for welfare benefit advice, debt advice and crisis support. Our team have guided 100’s of customer through the welfare benefit system, secured grants for many to help with arrears and essential items, delivered food parcels on a daily basis, made sure customers had gas and electric and even volunteered to work extra shifts across our ExtraCare schemes to ensure our most vulnerable customers were cared for.
We know the next few months will see a lot more people needing our help as the furlough scheme comes to an end, court action resumes and “Ëœpayment holidays’ from creditors cease. The last few months has really highlighted the importance of saving money for the unexpected and having easy access to affordable loans! We actively promote Just Credit within our communities, and encourage our staff teams to take advantage of our Just Credit Payroll Deduction scheme and their preferential Key Worker loans.    ÂÂ
